The Yala Progressive Union (YPU), Calabar branch paid a congratulatory visit to the Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey Ph D, earlier today in his office at the Ministry of Education Headquarters, Calabar. The YPU was led by their Chairman, Dr. Denis Iyaji Ogar JP and other Senior Executive members.
The group congratulated the Commissioner for his well deserved appointment, and for his exemplary service, dedication and outstanding performance during his tenure as Executive Chairman, CR-SUBEB.
“Your commitment to excellence, innovation and inclusivity in the Education sector has left an indelible mark on our educational system and we are confident that under your leadership, our state education sector will continue to thrive and progress,” YPU stated.
The Union finally made some appeal which includes:
*Intervention in the Yala Secondary Commercial School Okpoma (YASCO).
*Support in the areas of promoting peaceful co-existence among our various communities, especially with the recent spate of communal clashes between our people.
*Upgrading of the UNICROSS, Okuku campus to College of Medicine to meet the required standard amongst others.
The Commissioner formally welcomes, and thanked the new Chairman of YPU, Dr. Denis Iyaji Ogar (JP) and his team, who deemed it necessary to pay him a visit. He further informed that he has listened very keenly to all their request and assured that, at the appropriate time they will be attended to. Odey also stressed the need for unity and peace in Yala, all the components of Yala LGA must come together to collectively strive for peace, unity and development. Verify every information you get as rumour mongers are out to cause disunity, the Commissioner emphasised.
Finally he said, “concerning my support in the area of communal clashes, I am an advocate of peace and I am ready to support in any possible way to restore absolute peace among the waring communities. He thanked them for the visit and assured them of his continuous support and commitment to the development of Yala LGA and the State at large.
