The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, was represented at the public presentation and launch of an academic Festschrift in honour of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Banku Obi.

The event, hosted by the Department of Special Needs Education, featured the unveiling of the book “A Redefinition of Theory and Practice of Special Needs Education: A Festschrift in Honour of Professor Florence Banku Obi.”

Delivering the Commissioner’s address, the Permanent Secretary, Ntunkea Mrs. Offiong Ani Offiong, praised Professor Obi’s exceptional leadership, her transformative impact on the University of Calabar, and her lifelong contributions to Special Needs Education and inclusive learning. She highlighted her visionary reforms, digital innovation, academic excellence, and commitment to expanding equitable access to education.

The address also celebrated Professor Obi’s broader influence in Cross River State, including her previous roles in government and her contributions to teacher development and educational partnerships.

The ceremony was attended by top academics and university administrators, including Professor Francisca Bassey Vice Chancellor University of Cross River State, Professor Ngozi Osarenren tge book reviewer and other distinguished scholars.

Overall, the Festschrift was described as a fitting tribute to Professor Obi’s legacy of scholarship, leadership, and advocacy for inclusive education.
