The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., has on Monday, January 5, 2026, at his Okuku residence, marked the New Year with the people of Yache Nation and supporters drawn from across the Local Government Areas of Cross River North Senatorial District, by empowering hundreds of beneficiaries with cars, motorcycles, sewing machines, food items, cash and other materials.

The New Year celebration, which recorded a massive turnout of party faithful, community members and well-wishers, featured the distribution of cars, motorcycles, sewing machines, over 300 bags of rice, cash support, and other empowerment items aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening grassroots support.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Odey said the celebration was an opportunity to give back to the people who have stood by him over the years and to reaffirm his unwavering commitment to the development of Cross River North. “This New Year celebration is not just about festivity; it is about gratitude and empowerment. I am deeply thankful to the people of Yache Nation and the entire Cross River North for their unwavering support,” Senator Odey stated.
He reaffirmed his resolve to continue working towards improved living standards for the people, stressing that empowerment remains central to his public service philosophy. “My commitment remains the improvement of livelihoods, the strengthening of communities, and the promotion of inclusive development across Cross River North,” he added.
Senator Odey also pledged his continued support for the administration of His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, noting that the governor’s People First agenda aligns strongly with his own vision of inclusive growth and sustainable development. “The People First mantra of His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, resonates strongly with my vision. Together, we will continue to empower our people and build a more prosperous Cross River State,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Hon. Boniface Okache, commended Senator Odey for his leadership style and consistent empowerment initiatives across the northern senatorial district.“ Senator Professor Stephen Odey has demonstrated uncommon leadership and genuine concern for the welfare of his people. He is a trusted and tested leader whose empowerment programmes continue to make a real impact across Cross River North,” Chief Okache said.
Also speaking, Hon. Odey Brian, Member representing Yala I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, praised the commissioner for what he described as people-centred leadership and generosity. “Professor Odey has always placed the people first. His generosity and commitment to grassroots development distinguish him as a leader who truly understands the needs of his constituents,” Hon Brian remarked.
Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the empowerment support, describing it as timely and impactful, especially in the face of prevailing economic challenges.
The event was attended by top government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, women groups, youth groups and other stakeholders from across Cross River North, underscoring Senator Odey’s strong grassroots connection and enduring influence within the region.
