The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, on Monday participated in the official unveiling of key National Policy Documents on Education approved by the 69th National Council on Education (NCE).
The event, which took place in Abuja, brought together Commissioners for Education from the 36 states of the federation, alongside critical stakeholders in the education sector. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, performed the official unveiling of the policy documents for nationwide implementation.
Describing the occasion as a major step towards education reform, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the quality, inclusiveness, safety and responsiveness of Nigeria’s education system.
The policy documents unveiled include the National Teachers Policy (NTP) and its Implementation Guidelines; the National Implementation Guidelines Against Drug and Substance Use in Schools in Nigeria for secondary schools and tertiary institutions; and the National Policy on Almajiri Education in Nigeria, alongside its Implementation Guidelines.
Following the unveiling ceremony, Dr. Alausa led education stakeholders to the commissioning of the COSCEN Secretariat located at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja. The Secretariat is expected to play a critical role in enhancing coordination, collaboration and institutional support for education sector reforms across the country.
Senator Professor Odey’s participation underscores Cross River State’s commitment to aligning with national education policies aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening the education system at all levels.
