Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey (Associate Prof), earlier today concluded the pre-resumption meeting for the commencement of 2024/2025 academic session with Principals / Head Teachers of Central Senatorial District. Recall that on Tuesday, (September 3, 2024), the Commissioner and other Principal officers of his MDAs had met with all the Heads of Public Secondary and Primary Schools in Southern Senatorial District in Calabar.

Today at Government Secondary School Ikom, venue of the pre-resumption meeting for Central Senatorial District, the Commissioner with his Management Staff and other Directors of the Education Ministry, Chief Executives of the Ministry’s MDAs, such as the Executive Chairman, CR-SUBEB, Elder Esu Effiong Esu; Executive Secretary, Technical Education Board, Dr. Achibong Emmanuel Etim, Executive Secretaries of LGEAs / Coordinating Supervisory Directors of Central Senatorial District and many others were all in Ikom for the pre-resumption meeting as the Commissioner charged them to revive the read and write activities in the forthcoming academic session.

The Education Commissioner – Associate Professor Odey, in Ikom during the meeting, further emphasized that, all his Ambassadors should always encourage parents and guardians to do the correct thing, and that all approved levies by the Ministry be collected and remitted accordingly to appropriate government account. He admonished that they should all desist from all forms of sharp practices by doing only what is right and in accordance with the Ministry’s policies; School Heads should ensure cleanliness and conducive learning environment in schools to aide teaching and learning, hence all schools must be kept clean for effective academic activities. On staff promotion, it will henceforth, only be based on merits, and that all illegal schools in the State will be closed down, this new academic session all hands must be on deck to ensure proper monitoring and supervision, he emphasised.

Finally the Commissioner specially thanked His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the State Governor for his continued passion and commitment for the overall development of the education sector, as recently demonstrated in the free WAEC registration for Secondary School Students of the State origin, a venture which has yielded excellent performance in the results of Cross River State Students as released by WAEC, he stated.
